Ukraine

Country of great antiquity and womb of Slavonic nationhood. The history of Ukraine began in the 7th century BC. In the 9th - 10th centuries AD it unified the surrounding territories and thereby the Slavonic peoples. That is why the Ukrainian capital is nowadays called `Mother of Russian Cities`.

Cradle of Slavs Christianity. In 988, the Kievan Rus leader Volodymyr accepted Christianity from Constantinople and forced its expansion among the Slavonic nations. The Sophia Cathedral in Kiev (11th century) is the oldest Christian church of the eastern Slavs.

Attractive Ukraine. Hospitable people, magnificent architecture, miles of gently rolling steppe and wonderful subtropical Black sea shore lodge themselves in your brain. Nearly every Ukrainian city and town has its centuries-old cathedral, and many have open-air museums of folk architecture, caves stuffed with mummified monks, and exquisite mosaics. Ukraine has its share of the thoroughly modern, but it`s also replete with Gothic, Byzantine and Baroque architecture and art - reminders of its many foreign overlords. There are also dozens of villages with picket fences and duck ponds, where time seems to stand still.

Crimea - pearl of Ukraine. Every year from 5 up to 6 million tourists come to this oasis on the Black sea. A unique area where prehistoric constructions are hidden among palaces of ancient and contemporary nobles.
